The Detroit Lions signed free agent linebacker Justin Durant on Friday.
Picked in the second round of the 2007 draft by Jacksonville, he has spent his four-year career with the Jaguars and has racked up 272 tackles along with two sacks and two interceptions.
Boasting one of the better defensive lines in the NFL, Detroit's main weakness on defense has been linebacker as the team is also reportedly in the hunt for former Titans linebacker Stephen Tulloch, who was the second-leading tackler in the NFL last season.
Also signed by the team on Friday were free agents Rashied Davis, quarterback Drew Stanton and kicker Dave Rayner.
Davis caught nine balls for 84 yards with a touchdown last season with the Bears, where he has spent all six of his NFL seasons. He also returns kicks and contributes defensively on special teams.
Stanton played in six games last year with Detroit and started three of them as the team suffered several injuries at the position. He threw for 780 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions last season.
Rayner played the final eight games last season for Detroit after Jason Hanson went down with a medial collateral ligament injury. He went 13-for-16 on field goal attempts after replacing Hanson.
Also signed by the team on Friday were wide receiver Stefan Logan, linebackers Caleb Campbell, Korey Bosworth and Ashlee Palmer, center Dylan Gandy, safeties John Wendling and Randy Phillips, cornerbacks Maurice Leggett, Prince Miller and Paul Pratt, defensive tackles Quinn Pitcock and Andre Fluellen, fullback Jerome Felton and tackle Corey Hillard
The team also placed tackle Jeff Backus and cornerback Alphonso Smith on the active/non-football injury list.
