Coaches honor Clady with All-American selection
Boise State offensive tackle Ryan Clady has been named to the AFCA All-American team, the American Football Coaches Association announced Thursday.
The junior from Rialto, Calif., is the first Bronco to make the team since defensive end Joe O'Brien was selected to the Division I-AA squad in 1994.
The selection committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the organization's nine districts. The AFCA has selected an All-American team every year since 1945. It is the only team chosen exclusively by head coaches.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Clady is a key member of a Boise State offense that is fifth in the nation in scoring (42.75 points per game), sixth in passing efficiency (155.87) and ninth in total offense (475.67 yards per game).
Clady made the preseason Playboy, Sporting News and SI.com teams. He was a second-team SI.com selection after the 2006 season (running back Ian Johnson made the SI.com first team).
Joining Clady on the AFCA offensive line are Jake Long (Michigan), Kirk Barton (Ohio State), Steve Justice (Wake Forest) and Duke Robinson (Oklahoma). Clady is one of eight juniors on the squad, which also includes San Jose State cornerback Dwight Lowery.
Clady made the Rivals.com All-American third team, also announced Thursday.
