Recap: Boise State vs. Nevada

Ian Johnson gained 205 yards on 28 carries with two touchdowns on the ground, had four catches for 51 yards and another TD, and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth overtime as Boise State held on to top Nevada, 69-67, in a Western Athletic Conference shootout.

Taylor Tharp completed 26-of-35 passes for 320 yards, four TDs and one interception for the Broncos (5-1, 2-0 WAC), who moved to 18-1 under second- year head coach Chris Petersen and ran their home win streak in WAC games to 26 in a row. Jeremy Childs had 12 catches for 140 yards and a score for the Broncos.

Colin Kaepernick completed 11-of-26 passes for 243 yards and three scores, and ran for 177 yards and two scores on 14 carries. Luke Lippincott rushed 31 times for 187 yards and four TDs for Nevada (2-4, 0-2). Marko Mitchell caught four balls for 161 yards and a score.

A 35-yard field goal by Brett Jaekle gave the Wolf Pack their first lead of the night, 44-41, with 3:40 left. Boise State's Kyle Brotzman drilled a 27- yarder, though, as the clock expired to send the game to overtime.

A 25-yard scoring run by Lippincott and a 25-yard TD catch by Sherm Blaser kept things even after one overtime. Tharp hit Childs for a 25-yard score in the second OT, but Kaepernick rumbled in from 25 yards out to send the game to a third extra session.

There the teams traded field goals, a 27-yarder by Jaekle and a 33-yarder by Brotzman, to set up the climactic fourth extra session.

Ian Johnson dove in from one yard out to put the Broncos on top, and Boise State converted the two-point conversion to go ahead 69-61. The Wolf Pack answered, though, with Lippincott breaking several tackles to score from seven yards out. Kaepernick was dragged down in the back field on the two-point try, though, ending the game.

A nine-yard scoring run by Jeremy Avery put the Broncos on top 7-0 with 11:39 left in the first quarter. Nevada answered with 1:10 left in the quarter, on a 16-yard TD pass from Kaepernick to Junior Puloka.

Ian Johnson burst through for a 72-yard scoring scamper early in the second quarter to put Boise State back on top, and a 33-yard TD grab by Ryan Putnam put the Broncos up 21-7 with 6:05 left in the half.

A one-yard TD run by Lippincott pulled Nevada within 21-14 with 4:27 left in the half. Tharp's 25-yard scoring pass to Blaser, however, put Boise State back up 28-14.

Kaepernick found Mitchell on a 58-yard TD pass with 1:15 left, though, cutting the Broncos lead to 28-21 heading into the break.

A five-yard scoring run by Lippincott evened things early in the third quarter but two Brotzman field goals, of 40 and 31 yards, put Boise State up 34-28 early in the fourth quarter.

Kaepernick's 41-yard TD pass to Mike McCoy could have put the Wolf Pack ahead, but the point after was blocked, and the score remained tied at 34-34 with 12:03 left.

Tharp hit Ian Johnson on a 32-yard TD toss to put the Broncos back on top 41-34 with 10:37 left in regulation. Kaepernick's nine-yard keeper evened the score again only 25 seconds later.
